Kab tak bhagein fabrics se.... Braiding bhi seekh li
We are having a course named CRAFTS. In this course we r expected to have a "hands on experience" of various materials. We were required to select different materials and then explore them. I chose fabrics... and to my doom I realized soon that I had to work under the former HOD of Textile department . He wanted me to give the details of all fabrics which I collected in one day.And all means ALL. Neways, I was assigned to make a cricket bat for children using fabrics. I tried many fabrics, many methods.... but all in vain. The guy just desired that I should come up with the way which he had in mind. Finally I submitted. He asked me to make a bat by BRAIDING.
And I made IT. :)

IDC workshop :In a Planet of our own -Sustainability issues
I got a chance to participate in an international workshop organized by IDC, IIT Mumbai. It was titled "In a Planet of our own", dated 3,4,5 November,2009. Entry was through competition in which participants were required to design anything in a circle of diameter 1200 px.

Following was my entry-

Here's a small explanation of what I designed -
I have tried to depict the concept of Sustainability through the chinese symbol of Yin-Yan.Yin-Yan is the symbol of balance between the positive and negative energies in the cosmos. Nature also works on this principle. The destructive processes are counter balanced by perpetual creative processes. But nowadays, due to humans’ indiscriminate use of resources and everincreasing exploitation of Nature, the balance is disturbed. The malignity of human acts is overshadowing the purity of Nature. In such a scenario, Mother Nature can do nothing, but to regret of her own fate and helplessly see her own sons, exploiting her.
In the workshop we were divided in groups dealing with sustainability issues in different areas-
- Trash and Consequences Principles
- Water and Sustainability
- Sustainability and Indigenous Cultures
- Sustainable packaging
- Innovation and Sustainability
- Materials and Sustainability
- Sustainability Principles
- Product Sustainability
I was in the group " Product Sustainability".
We had to come up with a product/presentation at the end of day 3. We had to deal with the sustainability issues of food. I worked on the redesign of "Gujia", a sweet/food prepared during the festival of HOLI. I prepared a poster to be dispalyed -

With great power comes great responsibility
My workshop at IDC,"In a Planet of Our Own", was my first trip to outside world after joining NID. I was very excited for this trip as international students and speakers coming. It was a three day workshop. I also had at the back of my mind that since this was a " all expense paid trip", it could be turned into a fun trip without any serious mind-boggling sessions. The workshop needed serious discussion on topic of Sustainability issues. People from various backgrounds had come. I could tell for sure that that I could tell with pride that I study at NID, India's best Design institute.
As the workshop proceeded, I realized a feeling- I wanted to enjoy, skip discussion sessions and roam around and all, but I couldn't. A feeling of responsibility caught hold of me. I was representing NID there !
I had to be productive in all possible forms to keep up the name of NID. I may not be the best but I had to contribute my BEST. At that common forum i was representing the ideology of NID, the way it moulds Designers out of common people.
I m proud to be an NIDian !

NID/CEED Entrance Queries
I faced a lot of confusion and unnecessary tension while preparing to get into a Design college. A lot of people offer rubbish guidance with full confidence. Now, when I m into NID, my dream destination, I would be glad to help the aspirants in their pursuit.
So, If you have any queries regarding anything, you are welcome to share with me. I would offer my best to help you out !

DAYS - NIGHTS = NID
NID has a characteristic..... it does not sleeps. During the day time our classes go on, and during night we carry out our work, our assignments, gossips, masti etc. We have become so habitual of staying up late at night that even if the work can be finished soon, we push it to the extreme limits. Working late nights is an advantage in a manner. We can work according to our comfort and suitability. Theres no code of manners and formality to be observed. Work as you like ! The point is - work has to be completed , no matter how you do it. We are given so much work, that we HAVE to stay up late. This also prepares us for the hostile environment of the industry.

Design Concepts and Concerns
Design Concepts and Concerns is a necessary course, indispensable to any design stream. It makes us realize that ideas are omnipresent. It helps us shed the misconception of ‘I’ and move on to ‘We’. It helps us respect others ideas and add value to them so that something fruitful could be produced.
Design Concepts and Concerns is a simulation of real world situation where we interact with people of different abilities and genre. We should develop an ability to produce the best in a given situation. The course makes us realize that ‘what we think’ is important but ‘what we can make others think’ is still more important. Presentation of thoughts is an elementary aspect in the process of design.
During the course, we were grouped with people of different background, skill sets and thought processes. It could easily have been perceived in negative terms. But we were rational enough to realize that this added to our advantage as we had a variety of thought and diversity of vision to facilitate the process of design.
